Wendy Harris
Wendy Harris is a nationally award-winning, nationally collected, internationally published, locally recognized and commissioned pastel artist. She is passionate about clouds, landscapes, and color. She confesses that she has very thirsty eyes and lives to awaken all to the common beauty that surrounds us. She has recently been exploring other media including gouache, oil, and interference acrylics. Abstraction has also crept into her repertoire. Her studio gallery is open by appointment (text or call: 315-727-6577). Follow her on instagram.

Private lessons in pastel
"My role as a teacher," Wendy Harris states in the handout, "is to help students grow in their own trust of their instincts, to believe in themselves, to push on, to try new things, and to do the same scene again as they get to know it so they can dare more."

I love nature and the way light plays in it throughout the day in every season. I live to paint "en plein air", on site in the open air. The loss of the family farm, the collision of corporate interests with healthful agricultural practices, the shrinking landscape to urban sprawl, and the incredible changes wrought by climate change all have me committed to sustainability and to capturing the increasingly threatened natural landscape in my paintings.
I've been graced by a genetic heritage; my grandfather was a named artist in the 30's and 40's and my mother won a full four-year scholarship at Syracuse University at the age of 16, with the best entering freshman portfolio in the College of Art. My paintings are mixed media but predominantly pastel. Pastels are the most archival of all art media because they have the least amount of binder; it's like painting with pure pigment (chalk is a poor cousin). I also work in oil and acrylic.
My paintings are award-winning, nationally-collected, and internationally published. My first exhibition was by invitation where I took the Judge's Choice Award.
I offer signed originals and Giclée canvas or paper prints in a variety of sizes, prints in Plak-It mounting for modern unframed presentation. My prints are used as recognition gifts as well as wedding and other special occasion giving.
